good work glows
WAFF is honored to be recognized for our work in serving the DMV. Most importantly, each award begins with what matters most: helping someone stay warm.
Each honor recognizes the care, creativity, and teamwork that go into every WAFF campaign. These moments of recognition remind us that when people come together with compassion and purpose, good work truly does make the world a little brighter.
'Bringing It Home' for Pet Month (2025)
Each May, National Pet Month celebrates the love that makes a house a home. WAFF’s “Bring It Home” campaign shared stories through the voices of pets whose families faced energy hardship, reminding donors that warm homes protect every member of the family.
Our whimsical online campaign reached thousands of households, added new recurring donors, and raised more than $5,000 of direct aid to keep people and pets together.

'Stepping Up' for Maryland Families (2024)
When Maryland’s state assistance funds ran out in 2024, hundreds of families faced immediate utility shutoffs. WAFF organized five emergency outreach events across the state that reached more than 35,000 people. The result was $123,000 in on-site aid and restoring service for 400 households. Families left those events with working heat, hot water, and a renewed sense of stability. We were proud to mobilize compassion at scale.

'Freezin' for a Reason': WAFF Ice House (2023)
Imagine wearing a heavy coat indoors to avoid hypothermia. Or leaving your house because it’s warmer outside. Or doing without food and medicine just to stay warm.
To experience that reality, WAFF built a home made of ice at The Wharf DC. Donations from the event helped families across the DMV keep their homes warm that winter, proving that empathy and storytelling can move people to act.

'Winter. Warmth. WAFF.' Pandemic Response (2022)
In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and shutdowns, WAFF was there for the DMV with additional assistance during a time of the world's greatest need. In 2022, we implemented a year-long campaign that began reintegrating live events with online awareness. Culminating in the 2023 Ice House event, it was a challenging but rewarding year of "welcome back to the world."
